Nvidia Preps Audience For NV30 Launch
A presentation made by Nvidia executives in Korea in advance of the NV30's launch at Comdex holds some hints as to the features of Nvidia's new graphics chip.
According to a presentation made in conjunction with "Nvidia GeForce Mania's [sic] Day" in Korea, the NV30 will contain 125 million transistors, three times the amount contained in the Pentium 4. Nvidia will be positioning the part as "the cinematic shading GPU", the name adopted by ATI and Nvidia for its graphics chips.
The presentation apparently served as a summation of public information regarding the NV30. An Nvidia spokesman said all of the information presented had been shown at the SIGGRAPH graphics show in August, and was "nothing new".
Unfortunately, the presentation does not address the most important question to buyers, namely, when the company will actually begin selling the chip, or when third-party card manufacturers will begin selling NV30-based products. The price of NV30 cards also remains a mystery.
