Doom3

by

The in-game quality presets (Ultra, High, Medium, and Low Quality) that Doom 3 offers are a bit confusing at first, since they primarily affect texture size and the complexity of shader programs, while also suggesting a smaller display resolution. Most low-cost cards are only minimally faster in the low quality settings than in the higher presets (with the resolution staying the same). Therefore, we created another preset (Very Low), in which we have deactivated the special effects, shadows, and the specular and bump maps through the advanced settings. As you can see in the following screenshots, the image quality suffers immensely from these changes. Yet even at these minimal settings the game is still not playable with all of the cards.

A comparison of Doom3's various quality settings (High, Low as well as our user-defined Very Low). Click on an image for a larger, unscaled view.
