Nvidia's Fermi Cards Said to Run Very Hot
Hot graphics with hot temperatures.
Graphics enthusiasts eagerly await the arrival of Nvidia's Fermi GPU-based cards. At this point, Nvidia is trailing behind ATI and its 5000-series cards, but expectations are high for Fermi.
Expected to turn things around for Nvidia in a big way, Fermi is supposed to vastly superior to the company's current line of 200-series cards.
Speaking to several case vendors at CES, we were told that while running one Fermi card alone or two single-GPU cards is fine, going any higher may introduce thermal issues. Though no firm temperatures were revealed, manufacturers said that users need to be extra careful about how they setup the innards of their gaming chassis.
A rep from one manufacturer said that Fermi-based cards will run hotter than the hottest ATI Radeon HD 5000 series.

Good, I'm bloody freezing.
I prefer cool and quiet, thank you very much. The Radeon 5000's keep looking better...
-35C here in Canada... now thts fkn cold.
It wont help much with the cold winter as it will be spring before it's released.
They are saying in Q1 but when pushed they clarified and said Nvidia Q1 which runs until 30th April...so as they had to re clarify that to Nvidias Q1 then to me that means it is NOT going to be released in the Normal Q1....so we wont see it until sometime in April....that's assuming they don't delay further.
When nvidia cards are running hot, mean they are on the edge of theyre capabilities to catch up with ATI 5 series.
Not so good for Nvidia, i am gonna buy my ATI 5870 now before they discover nvidia is running slow and rise up the 5 serie price.
Only -5 here in Calgary. T-shirt weather!
By the time NVidia get their hot new Thermi out...
AMD will have their product refresh on its way for more cool and faster to usher the summer in LOL
Am going for a 5870 (and a nice low power LED backlit screen to Finally replace my room heating 22" Diamond Plus CRT - which has been a life saver this winter ^^ ) so my unairconditioned room doesn't turn into a sweat box this summer!
If they're admitting now that there are noticable thermal issues before release, probably indicates that it's actually a shit ton worse then they make out.
