Call of Duty: Black Ops Getting 3D Treatment
Black Ops going 3D for all three platforms.
Activision Blizzard announced on Tuesday that Call of Duty: Black Ops will support stereoscopic 3D when the game ships for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 9th. Developed by Treyarch, studio Head Mark Lamia said that 3D support originally began as a research and development project.
"Once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops," he said. "Aiming down the sights of your weapons, flying in helicopters, rappelling down mountains, and moving through highly detailed environments are just some of the awesome experiences you will have in 3D with Black Ops."
Call of Duty: Black Ops for Windows PC is Nvidia 3D Vision-Ready and supports stereoscopic 3D gaming using 3D Vision active-shutter glasses and Nvidia GeForce GPUs. For Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system consoles, 3D features require a compatible 3D-ready HD TV.
"We made sure the experience is seamless for gamers to use with a simple menu option to enable stereoscopic 3D or disable it at any time whether playing in the single player campaign, multiplayer or Zombies," Lamia added.
Last week Activision Blizzard said that Call of Duty: Black Ops would follow World at War by including a cooperative Zombies cooperative mode. This allows up to four players to team up against the undead during a zombie apocalypse.
"We've taken extra special care to retain the essential ingredients of our Zombie game, and have also crafted a nice surprise for the fans," Lamia teased.

Oh god... why so much 3D crap?
Ive thought 3d in video games was a good thing ever since the original "Elite" came out in the early 80's.
The newer active glasses 3d formats are just the latest improvements in the field. Personally Im all for anything increases game immersivenes. To me its just another evolutionary step on the way from pong towards the holodeck...
