Black Friday sales grow nearly 12% - NPD Group
The NPD research group says technology sales grew 11.8% for the week ending November 25 which includes the major Black Friday shopping day after Thanksgiving. Sales surpassed $2 billion dollars, but the group says the growth rate has slowed from previous years.
LCD television sets topped the revenue charts with $275 million in sales and 13.2% of total sales. Rounding out the top five were notebook computers, digital computers, plasma television sets and MP3 players.
Large television sets and GPS units were the biggest winners. Sales of LCD televisions above 30 inches grew 208.5% from the previous year, while GPS revenues grew 262%. GPS unit sales rocketed 670% from 2005.
In 2005 sales grow 15.4% from 2004 figures and the growth rate in the previous year was 12.5%.
