Enter the world of ancient Greek mythology and take on the role of Kratos, an ex-Spartan warrior determined to achieve military success through brutal combat.

The story begins with Kratos jumping to his death, and then tells his tale of the preceding three weeks through flashbacks. Kratos makes a pact with Ares, the God of War, in order to save his mortal life. This deal changes his destiny, and sets in motion an irreversible series of events that drives Kratos mad and compels him to seek revenge against Ares. Kratos must battle mythological monsters and legions of undead soldiers to find Pandora's box and defeat Ares.

The explosive story is told through a series of gory cinematics, with multiple endings that are triggered by how you play through this game of unforgivable sin, heart-wrenching hopelessness and the unwavering determination of the damned.

This is not a game for the timid. For starters, Kratos wields the Blades of Chaos, a weapon that is basically comprised of swords attached to chains that are inextricably bound to Kratos's arms. You'll use these to hack enemies to bits, decapitate them, and let flow great volumes of demon blood.

This game features multiple sexual situations, nudity, and excessive brutality. If this bothers you, then skip God of War. But if it doesn't, then get ready for one hell of a journey.

Graphics And Sound

God of War virtually eliminates load times and provides stunning visuals and fluid action. Production value is very high throughout - the landscapes and cityscapes are stunning, and many of the action scenes are simply unbelievable.

For instance, journey to the edge of the world and gaze upon the Desert of Lost Souls before summoning a Titan that has the Temple of Pandora chained to its back. Clash with a colossal Minotaur on a battlefield littered with smoldering corpses. Sony Santa Monica has done an excellent job of making the world of Greek mythology come alive in all of its beautiful and gory detail. And the original soundtrack is more what you'd expect from a movie than a game. Positional sound effects and clear voice acting make God of War the kind of game that you experience rather than just play.
