Nokia to put RealPlayer on phones
Right now, cell phone calls are still relatively expensive and slow in the US with data transmission speeds approaching only 14.4 kbps. When this changes, streaming music to cell phones will become a practical option. European and Asian markets are already upgrading their networks to deliver 40 kbps and the US should reach that speed about a year after. RealNetworks is working with Nokia to put its RealPlayer multimedia software into wireless phones, joining others who are preparing to take some of the market currently owned by radio and playback devices.
