Nobel winner says computing problems to be solved soon

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Physics Nobel Prize winner Arno Penzias says, "Our computers don't work, our databases are fragmented and our networks are clogged. We can't really build today the kind of computer systems we want because of reliability issues; data storage is a terrible mess; and we can't get the kinds of rapid and reliable access to large amounts of data that we need to make intelligent decisions."

He believes, however, that these problems will be solved in the very near future, curing the information poverty currently suffered by modern humans. Then, Penzias says, the major problem will be the way information is acquired by the brain. He calls this the "visual bottleneck" and foresees the solution in emerging display technologies.
