Nintendo to Offer New "Legend of Zelda" Game as Giveaway
In order to spur sales of its GameCube console, Nintendo has announced that for the next few months with the purchase of GameCube at the retail price of $149.99 US it will include a free game from a limited selection of games. And starting May 4th, Nintendo says it will add "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" to the available free game pool through July of this year. "The Legend of Zelda" game will replace the current "Resident Evil Zero" game in the current giveaway selection. Nintendo announced that during its fiscal year ending March 31, 2003 it had shipped 5.6 million GameCube console units, falling short of its forecast of 10 million. The new "Zelda" game is very popular and sold more than 600,000 copies just in pre-sales before its launch at the end of March. Nintendo is trying to boost its sales after a disappointing retail holiday season in 2002.
