Nintendo showcases Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

At a rather upbeat and entertaining press conference at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, Nintendo showcased their upcoming Wii console with a play through of Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess.

As well as the expected run around the game using the motion sensitive controller they used the opportunity to unveil some new details about the console. One major one is that the controller has a speaker built into it, which the gamers demonstrated on stage by aiming and firing a bow, with the sound of the bow being relayed through the controller.

They also demonstrated how the motion sensors on the controller are independent of the buttons, so that one can use both in tandem, for example to move forward and then thrust with the controller, causing Link to smack out with his shield.

There will also be a number of mini games associated with the controller - for example one will be able to go fishing in the game.

Not related to the controller is the news that the game will be released on the Wii launch date, and that there will be two versions of it - one for the Wii, and one for the GameCube. This signals that Nintendo intends to continue to support its older console for the time being.
