Nintendo delays Gamecube
Nintendo's Japanese launch of its GameCube game console, originally planned for this July, will be put off two months until mid-September. Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi hinted that the company was worried about parts shortages. Though its handheld Game Boy is the most successful game platform to date, the company has struggled to break even with its larger console. The GameCube is still scheduled for a pre-Christmas release in the US.
