New ViewSonic Ultra-Slim LCD

LCD panels are definitely getting less expensive, but they are still a little rich for my blood - especially when you get up to the 21" screens. But they are getting cheaper and ViewSonic is entering the pricing competition with its new VE170m 17" LCD monitor. The VE170m features a two" profile along with wide viewing angles, and has built-in speakers, a contrast ratio of 300:1, and a 1280 x 1024 resolution at a price point of $899. The screen is TCO 99 and Energy 2000 certified, and ViewSonic says it uses half the energy and takes up half the desk space of a CRT display with the same screen size. The VE170m will be available in mid-August through authorized ViewSonic resellers, distributors and mail order catalogs. Backed by a three-year warranty on parts, labor and back light, the monitor also includes one year of ViewSonic's Express Exchange Service, guaranteeing a replacement monitor within 48-hours. BTW, has anyone ever heard of a monitor manufacturer actually replacing a back light?
