New Radeon for Old-School PCI Slots
With AGP cards getting faster and faster, it's surprising that a major developer would waste its time with tired old PCI slots. Or maybe it's not so surprising. There have to be a gazillion home users out there with old machines that don't have AGP slots but who still want to do a little fancy multimedia stuff. To give these users a little more bang without spending their bucks on a new machine, ATI is now shipping a PCI version of its RADEON card (but only in North America). The All-In-Wonder RADEON PCI has 32 MB SDR memory, personal video recorder technology, a stereo TV tuner, DVD playback with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, and video output. It also allows users to capture and edit MPEG-2 video and includes Gemstar's GUIDE Plus+ interactive programming guide and TV-On-Demand, which lets users pause, control, and archive TV content.
