New prices on 1GHz Coppermine, Pentium 4 revealed
Intel will respond to plans by rival AMD to slash prices on 1GHz Athlon processors by ramping up production of its 1GHz Pentium IIIs and by cutting the price to around $450, according to The Register
.

also reports that the first two versions of Intel's upcoming Pentium 4 will cost $795 and $895 when the 1.3GHz and 1.4GHz chips debut in September, but will be reduced by as much as 20 percent just two months later.
