New PDAs coming from Palm
Palm, Inc. plans to bolster its dominance in the handheld computer market with the introduction of two new handheld computer PDAs (Portable Data Assistants). The new models, known as the Tungsten T and the W models, will be marketed to corporate users primarily, and reportedly contain sufficient features that will motivate even current PDA users to want to upgrade to these devices. The Tungsten T model will retail for $499 US, and works by receiving e-mail and Internet communications solely through a cell phone, with the phone acting as a modem. It is available for sale now. The W model, to be available in early 2003, will retail for $549 US and will feature wireless Internet capability through use of a network access plan. The W model also features its own portable keyboard, the first time a keyboard has been included with a PDA. Both PDA models feature screens with improved, higher resolution and enhanced data access.
