New Mac OS beta Sept. 13
Steve Jobs says the public beta of the Mac OS X (pronounced ten not X) will be released September 13 at Apple Expo 2000 in Paris, Documents and applications are separated within the "dock" and the brightly colored "Aqua" interface can be toggled to less cartoonish "professional" graphite color scheme. Originally slated for release last year, it will include a desktop MP3 player, an upgraded QuickTime interface, support for the OpenGL graphics API, Sun's Java 2 API and symmetric multiprocessing. Reportedly, it will also have a one-second "wake up" and protected memory that will function even after a system crash.
