New Gateway desktops fired up by P4-600 CPUs
Irvine (CA) - Gateway catches up with other large system builders and now offers Intel’s 64-bit Pentium 4 processors of the 600-series in its products.
The new 9310 desktops match what Hewlett-Packard and Dell is offering since the introduction of the processor at the beginning of this week in updated products. The Gateway PC is limited to the firm’s direct sales channel and - other than the competition’s devices - can only be ordered with Pentium 4 600 chips.
The 9310 is built with BTX architecture for cooler and quieter operation, offers the 630 to 660 processor (3.0 to 3.6 GHz) and comes with 512 MByte memory, a 120 GByte harddrive, a CD burner, and a 17" CRT monitor standard for $1100. There are various options that can escalate the price quickly to $4000 and more.
Hewlett-Packard charges a similar amount for its my1050y entertainment PC with a P4-600 processor, Dell’s range of the Dimension 8400 and XPS gaming systems starts at about $1000 and tops out at more than $5000.
