New APIs to extend 3D capabilities - eventually
Microsoft's and Silicon Graphics' joint Fahrenheit project - a set of new application programming interfaces for computer graphics - could yield new levels of 3-D processing.
Fahrenheit aims to combine the Direct3D API from Microsoft with SGI's OpenGL environment, creating a graphics environment that spans both mainstream PCs and technical workstations.
Unfortunately, both companies have confirmed the API effort is about a year behind schedule.
