New Apache almost beta

by - source: Tom's Hardware

The most popular server on the Web, the open-source Apache, should be reborn by the end of the year. The fifth and last alpha of Apache 2.0, begun in 1997, was released Friday by the Apache Software Foundation. Originally written for Linux and Unix, the new Apache will feature much improved functionality on other systems including Windows, BeOS, OS/2 and, in time, Mac OS. It will support better Web browsing through a variety of improvements including "multithreading" and will run Wireless Application Protocol.
