Network Ice posts Carnivore clone
Security and firewall software company Network ICE Corp. has backward-engineered the FBI's e-surveillance system Carnivore, based on the FBI's own published specs in its request for review, and has posted the open-source "Altivore" source code on its Web site. The program is, at this point, not stable but the company wanted the program available to those who would like to examine or improve it. The company is, reportedly, considering the possible release of their finished product if the Carnivore plan is implemented, allowing ISPs to comply with any court ordered surveillance without using a program that is not open to scrutiny.
