NETGEAR, Inc. wisely launched the ProSafe 24 Port 10/100 Smart Switch with Four Gigabit Ports and 24 PoE Ports (FS728TP). With the ability to support 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) on all 24 10/100 ports, the FS728TP is a scalable Smart Switch that combines management capabilities, security and Quality of Service (QoS) features, NETGEAR says it’s an ideal solution for small- and medium-sized businesses deploying PoE-enabled infrastructure devices such as VoIP phones, access points and IP surveillance cameras. The new FS728TP provides for management through a Web-based GUI. A 195-watt PoE budget enables the FS728TP to simultaneously power PoE-enabled devices on each of the 24 10/100 ports. In addition, the FS728TP delivers high bandwidth through four copper Gigabit Ethernet ports with optional fiber interfaces on two of those ports for longer distances. The FS728TP also features a non-blocking wire-speed architecture that delivers a 12.8 Gbps switching capacity for maximum data throughput. In addition to a feature set that includes Access Control List (ACL) filtering, 802.1x port authentication, enhanced QoS for prioritization of voice traffic, rate limiting, and IGMP snooping, the FS728TP also supports SNMP v1, v2 and v3 for management and is optimized for use with ProSafe Network Management Software (NMS100) or other SNMP-based management software. With the addition of the FS728TP to the ProSafe Smart Switch family, NETGEAR now offers PoE-capable Smart Switches in variations of 12, 24 or 48 powered ports. The FS728TP is available via direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and value-added resellers at a list price of $630 USD.
