NEC's New 17" and 18" LCDs
If you're switching to an LCD monitor from a CRT, the cost of getting one that's the same size can be painful. That may be why the little fifteen-inchers are so popular, but my guess is that most folks who use a computer for any length of time are probably used to gazing at something bigger. Based on an announcement today by NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics, it looks like the price of bigger LCDs is starting to drop (nothing that'll replace that 21" behemoth on your desk, of course). The company is now putting forth 17" and 18" LCD monitors at estimated street prices of $799 and $899 respectively. The 17" NEC MultiSync LCD1720M has internal front-firing multimedia speakers built into its 3.4" deep frame, weighing 16.1 pounds with its stand. The NEC MultiSync LCD1720M has a viewing angle of 160 degrees horizontally and vertically using NEC's XtraView wide-viewing angle technology. The 18.1" LCD1850E supports the international sRGB color reproduction standard and has a bezel that measures 18.5 mm. It also gives you "No-Touch Auto Adjust," OSM on-screen controls, and XtraView technology, measures 3.1"es deep, and weighs 18.7 pounds with the stand. The LCD1720M is available now and the LCD1850E will be available in late January.
