NEC's Gigantic 61" Plasma Monitor

by - source: Tom's Hardware

While we're sitting around waiting for 21" LCDs to come down in price, the folks at the display companies seem to be working less on making the things cheaper and more on making them bigger. NEC takes the cake in the size competition with PlasmaSync 61MP1, a 61" plasma display. The big screen even provides split-screen capability, picture-in-picture display options, and digital zoom, along with wide XGA 1365 x 768 native resolution using square pixels. The 61MP1 can accommodate composite, component and S-Video as well as HDTV signal formats, while remaining compatible with computer graphics standards up to UXGA. The PlasmaSync 61MP1 will be available in July 2001 for $27,995. We know it's primarily intended for display apps like conference rooms, but anyone out there rich enough to pick one up for playing computer games could just hook it up and shred. The Register has info on pricing in the UK, and says you can talk NEC down a bit.
