NEC's 50" Plasma Display
If you're hoping for a great big new display under your Xmas tree and you think that someone thinks you're worth dropping around $13,000 on, think about putting NEC's 50" plasma display on your wish list. OK, I know it's not intended for fun stuff like gaming, but maybe Santa reads THG. NEC's new PlasmaSync 50MP2 plasma display is intended for multimedia presentation applications and offers a 50% greater contrast ratio over the NEC's previous generation display. The 50MP2 has a suggested retail price of $12,995 and provides a wide XGA resolution. Power consumption has also been reduced by 25% in the 50MP2, which is a big deal if you live in California. The display also features computer, video, and HDTV source compatibility. The screen includes NEC's Digital Zoom, which lets you pick a section of the screen and magnify it up to three times along with split-screen technology and variable-size picture-in-picture capability. It also incorporates something called Pixel Refreshment Technology, which gives you a programmable bar that scrolls across the screen activating screen phosphor as part of the monitor's AccuShield Phosphor Protection System.
