NEC stops Rambus production
Japan's largest chipmaker says it will temporarily cease production of Rambus chips.
The move by NEC follows recent news of a further delay in shipping an Intel chipset that supports the next-generation memory technology.
NEC has already switched its Direct Rambus lines in Southern Japan and Scotland over to SDRAM production. The company had planned to ship about 2 million Rambus chips monthly to PC makers.
Samsung of South Korea and Micron Technology have already announced plans to convert plants earmarked for Rambus production to handle SDRAM output.
