MMORPG maker NCsoft ordered to pay $500 to hacked players
A Korean court has ordered the makers of the MMORPG Lineage 2 pay players who were hacked in May 2004 $500 each.
NCsoft forgot to encrypt a database file log which contained usernames and passwords for more than 8,500 Lineage 2 players. This enabled hackers a free for all on the accounts. The total payout will be $4,250,000. This raises interesting questions about how applicable "real world" laws are in dealing with MMORPG world screwups.
