National Semiconductor Corporation Ends Q1 with Profit

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Santa Clara, California based National Semiconductor reported that it posted a profit for Q1, up from a huge loss posted a year ago. National Semiconductor attributed the turnaround to increased demand from wireless device manufacturers. Net income was reported for Q1 of $1.3 million, a huge improvement over last year's Q1 results of a net loss of $54.6 million. The company noted that consumer sales of computers and cell phones, part of the traditional back-to-school sales rush, were weaker than expected, presenting the possibility that Q2 may not equal Q1's numbers gain. National Semiconductor manufacturers computer chips for cell phones, flat-panel computer displays, and wireless devices, among other products. The computer chip industry suffered its worst year on record during the same time period last year.
