NASA: Hacker posed no threat to astronauts

NASA is disputing a report that a computer hacker put space shuttle astronauts' lives at risk in 1997 by overloading its communications system.

In a BBC documentary, a NASA official claimed that the hacker tapped into the space agency's computer system that monitors the heartbeat, pulse and medical condition of the astronauts aboard the shuttle as it docked at the Russian space station Mir. While denying any interruptions of communications with the shuttle, a NASA statement did acknowledge that the transmission of routine medical information was "slightly delayed due to a computer hacker" during the mission.
