Napster battle goes to court
The recording industry will ask a federal judge today to issue a preliminary injunction preventing Napster from posting certain songs to its music-sharing site.
The Recording Industry Association of America is suing the San Mateo, Calif.-based firm, claiming that its song-swapping service promotes copyright violations because it allows people to trade music for free. In response, Napster has accused the recording industry of attempting to stifle competition that threatens its hold on the current music distribution system.
