ano-Tech Used in Color-Changing Laptop
The lid of this laptop "shimmers" from turquoise to deep blue to purple thanks to nano-technology.
Looking for a laptop that has a unique flair? Toshiba may have the answer with the Dynabook Qosimo T750, a laptop that uses nano-technology to change the color of the notebook's lid.
As reported by Register Hardware, the notebook sports a flat base color called "shiny ocean" on the lid, a bluish tint that artificially "shimmers" with metallic colors ranging from turquoise to deep blue to purple, depending on the viewer's angle.
This shimmering visual effect is accomplished by using a technique developed by Toshiba and Japanese materials company Touré Meihan. Called Picasus, it comprises of multiple polyester laminate films containing thousands of "nano-technology" layers. By applying the films to the base color of the lid, Picasus generates a metallic look without using actual metal. An added "fingerprint-proof" coating repels nasty finger smudges to retain the effect.
Despite the pretty exterior, the 15.6-inch Toshiba notebook packs some rather decent hardware including a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5-480M processor, 4 GB of DDR3 memory and a 750 GB hard drive. Other features include an LED-backlit display with a native resolution of 1366 x 768, Harman Kardon speakers, 2.4/5 GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI output, USB 2.0 and eSata ports.
So far the Dynabook Qosimo T750 is only available in Japan, however it's highly likely laptop will eventually make its way over to the States sometime this year.
