MySpace wants to team up with eBay
Santa Monica (CA) - MySpace, the world’s largest social networking site, is hoping to team up with online auction giant eBay. According to the UK Telegraph newspaper , MySpace founder and chief executive Chris DeWolfe says he would like eBay to handle e-commerce transactions. He added that, "eBay could be a good partner."
If DeWolfe gets his way, MySpace’s 69 million users could soon be selling items like personalized t-shirts through their profile pages. eBay would be the middle-man and presumably take a percentage of any sales, much like it does for its regular online transactions. A partnership with eBay could also mean that MySpace would begin accepting payments through PayPal which is owned by eBay.
Even though MySpace is the king of the hill of social networking sites, it is playing a little catch up to rival Facebook after the much smaller site announced that it would open up development. Last month, Facebook also said that it will offer commission-free transactions for its members.
