Music biz targets Napster clones
Last week, the Recording Industry Association of America sent approximately 60 legal notices to Internet-service providers that connect "Open Napster" servers to the Web. "Open Napster" servers are unaffiliated with Napster and will not be forced out of business by the same court order that is expected to shut down Napster soon. Under the Digital Millennial Copyright Act, an ISP must block access to customers that regularly infringe copyrights. Some of the servers, however, are located outside the US and the reach of the DMCA.
