KiSS DP-500

The DP-500 DVD player from KiSS also uses a Sigma chip to decode DivX. The handbook and menu are completely in German and the device is slightly larger than the NorthQ player. Reaction time is somewhat slower than for the NQ5000.

KiSS supplied the DP-500 with a network interface. With the aid of the PC link software included in the package, files and folders can be released on any computer containing content that the DP-500 can play. This includes audio files in uncompressed WAV or MP3 audio and MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 video files. Unlike the NorthQ offering, we were also able to play back the Ogg-Vorbis format without further ado.

The replay launch for audio and video titles and being able to view photos using the PC link software are also interesting functions - and you don't have to lay a finger on the DP-500 itself. KiSS backs up the DP-500 with its own web radio offer, which requires a network connection and an Internet gateway.

The player shows the files it locates in a clear folder structure. The same applies to the contents of an inserted CD or DVD and to network collection points. This is much more convenient for users than the alphabetically sorted overview provided by the NorthQ.
