Microsoft XBox

Most people are familiar with the fact that the XBox is a multimedia capable gaming console. Numerous Internet suppliers are now modifying Xbox' to enable operation of unsigned XBox software. The underlying benefit lies in the use of additional software and/or other media playback programs than those in the XBox Media Center.

Software for which a Pentium III processor is required is supported. A side effect is that these modifications also enable the XBox to execute various emulators for the C64, Atari ST, Super NES and others.

The standard XBox has an Ethernet port and a connecting cable with composite/video and cinch/audio on the one side and a Scart plug on the opposite end. Unfortunately, some of the needed accessories have to be bought as extras, such as the remote control or a cable to connect the XBox to the TV via RGB to provide an optical digital output.

We modified our test unit accordingly (Evo-X) so that we could use the XBox Media Player available on the Net. However, before you start making changes, you should be aware that a modification of this type voids all guarantees.
