Conclusions
Even though the differences among models aren't as pronounced with these entry-level/midrange models as with more upscale printers, Canon and HP still came out ahead. The Pixma MP510 is a little disappointing compared to the MP500, but its quality/price ratio is still excellent. HP has made a laudable effort in the area of performance, and their Photosmart C4180 has undeniable charms where ergonomics is concerned. The cost per page has also been improved, as is also true of the X5470 from Lexmark, though both use combined ink cartridges. Epson remains very economical to use, but its performance is still disappointing despite some progress. As for Dell, they'll have to hurry up and revamp their pricing policy if they're serious about becoming a real player in the printer market.
