Security expert Georgi Guniski says he has found a security hole making it possible to put a Word document on the Web that points to an Access database containing Visual Basic code capable of doing all manner of mischief, including deleting critical files or sending personal information to other computers. The damage could also be accomplished through a link on e-mail. "The problem is, MS Word accepts an Access database as a data source in Mail Merge." A Microsoft spokesman has said that the importance of the security flaw has been overstated.
