MS, Verizon unveil CDMA PocketPC combo
Microsoft today unveiled Thera, a PocketPC 2002 PDA/phone for the US market which is due to start shipping from the middle of the year. First out of the traps with the device, which is aimed initially at business customers and will cost approximately $800, will be Verizon Wireless, with Sprint following. Thera is a 5in by 3in unit with CDMA 2000 1X voice and data communications, uses a 206MHz StrongARM processor, and is built for Audiovox by Toshiba Mobile Communications. For voice it will operate in dual band, on CDMa 800MHz and 1900MHz. Data speeds of 40-60kbit/s are claimed for it.
