MP3.com violated copyright law by creating a database where users store music and then access it through any computer connected to the Internet, a U.S. Federal court has ruled.
The ruling stemmed from a lawsuit filed by the world's largest record labels seeking to shut down the service offered by the San Diego, Calif.-based firm.
The suit is part of the music industry's anti-piracy crusade that includes a pending suit against San Mateo, Calif.-based Napster, the popular song-swap software company.
