Movie studios online this year
According to Jack Valenti, president of the Motion Picture Association of America, several major Hollywood studios will begin offering online movies within four to six months, while the rest will follow them onto the Web soon thereafter.
Valenti added, before the congressional hearing on digital entertainment, that the film business may need government help to protect its copyrighted materials. He contends that 350,000 movies are downloaded illegally every day and projects that the number will rise to a million by year's end. "People who wouldn't dream of stealing a movie off the shelf of a Blockbuster store will blithely download a movie." Valenti said.
