Motorola launches car engine controller
At the car industry's Convergence 2000 conference in Detroit this week, Motorola Inc. is showcasing its automotive PowerPC-based MPC565 microcontroller incorporating 1 MByte of on-board flash memory. The MPC565 includes a 32-bit, 56-MHz processor core, three time-processing units with 28-MHz microengines, 46 kBytes of SRAM and three controller-area network interfaces. Increasingly sophisticated engines combined with stricter fuel and emissions standards require significantly more computer power to handle an increasing number of engine sensors.
