Motorola G4 hits 1 GHz
Motorola has announced that its G4 Apollo processor will beat the 1 GHz mark. Apple Computer, the sole PC maker using the chip, has not yet announced when it will upgrade from its current, fastest 500 MHz version. Most G4 chips, however, are sold for networking equipment and Motorola also announced a 1 GHz notebook chip scheduled for the first half of next year. According to Motorola, the G4 speed increase came from silicon on insulator (SOI) technology that improves electron movement.
