More Netscape "spying" charges
Following charges by a New Jersey man that AOL's Netscape browser spies on users using the SmartDownload utility, a team from the German Internet publication tecChannel has endorsed the claim and has expanded the charges. According to the group, use of the "Search" button on the application's tool bar of the Netscape browser activated a similar reporting to a Netscape server. SmartDownload technology is licensed from RealNetworks and a computer security expert says that its RealDownload also alerts, "a mother ship server when a user downloads a file from anywhere on the Net."
