As we told you last week , the prices for memory and processors have been coming down, mostly in expectation of new silicon. For the most part, the southbound prices have been limited to older memory modules, like PC100 and PC133. Today, online memory broker Crucial.com let us know that its PC2100 DDR SDRAM memory modules are just about the same price as PC133 modules. The reason Crucial gives for the discounting is that Micron has been increasing DDR SDRAM output, resulting in lower production costs. Add in the fact that Crucial is a subsidiary of Micron and you get the whole picture. Today, Crucial's PC2100 DDR SDRAM modules now start at US $41.39 for 128MB and US $79.19 for 256MB and can be ordered direct from Crucial's website . Prices for volatile memory always seem to be volatile.
