Mitsubishi Electric Corporation Discussing DRAM Merger
Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun business daily has apparently reported that Mitsubishi Electric would transfer its DRAM (dynamic random access memory) operations to Elpida Memory Inc. The report further stated that Elpida Memory would purchase Mitsubishi Electric 's DRAM development and sales operations for 2 to 3 billion yen (approximately $16-24 million US). Elpida Memory was started in 1999 to merge the DRAM operations of Hitachi and NEC.
