Mini notebook PC FlipStart to use Efficeon processor
Santa Clara (CA) - Transmeta will supply its Efficeon processor for the FlipStart mini notbeook, which is expected later this year. The chip will be clocked at 1 GHz and provide the handheld-sized PC with enough performance to allow the use of typical Windows XP applications.
Vulcan, the developer of the FlipStart mini-Notebook, announced that it has selected the processor because of its energy-efficiency and small form factor.
The FlipStart , which has not been announced yet, will be a Windows XP-based notebook in the size of a hendheld computer. Its size will be 5.8 by 4 inches (148mm x 101mm). According to vulcan, the weight will be about 1 pound (450 g). Specification so far available include 256 MB RAM, a 30 GB harddrive, a 5.6 inch display with 1024x600 resolution, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera as well as 802.11b/g connectivity.
Vulcan, which was founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, has not yet released information on shipping dates and pricing.
