Microsoft has launched a software platform for cable-TV operators, with an eye to developing content and services for the burgeoning digital-TV market. Dubbed "Microsoft TV Foundation Edition," the software will run on the latest digital set-top boxes as well as cable-company servers. "Among those supporting the platform are cable-TV industry players Motorola, Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB), Concurrent Computer, MetaTV, SeaChange and Two Way TV. Microsoft also announced that Cablevisión (CVC), Mexico's largest cable operator, will roll out Microsoft TV-based services and expects to sign up some 450,000 subscribers in Mexico City within the year."
