Manchester (NH) - Microsoft has teamed up with For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) to offer a new regional robotics competition near its Seattle, Washington headquarters next year.
The event will be part of 40 other competitions throughout the world, which will lead to FIRST's annual championship competition in Atlanta's Georgia Dome.
"We see robotics as a key driving force in inspiring students about engineering and computer science," said Microsoft Robotics Group general manager Tandy Trower.
The event gives high school students a six week period to come up with a design and then build a working robot. Winners from each of the 41 regional challenges move on to the finals in Atlanta. Last year, more than 32,5000 students participated.
