Microsoft settlement talks fail
A federal mediator said current settlement talks aimed at resolving the U.S. government's case against Microsoft have ended in failure.
Judge Richard Posner said his efforts "proved fruitless" because differences between the two sides were "too deep-seated to be bridged."
The failure sets the stage for a ruling expected next week on whether Microsoft broke the nation's antitrust laws.
