Microsoft Reduces Xbox Price Again in Europe
On Thursday, Microsoft announced a retail price cut of 20% off its Xbox video console's current price in the European market. After this reduction, the Xbox will now retail for $199 Euros ($214.40) in Continental Europe ($214.40) and 129 Pounds ($201.99) in Great Britain. The new discounted price puts the Xbox at less than Sony's Playstation2 and Nintendo's GameCube video console games, and marks the third price reduction by Microsoft of the Xbox in Europe in the past year. Analysts predict that Microsoft and Sony are in such fierce competition that this could mark the first round of discounting for the entire gaming industry. Industry watchers are speculating that there may be a price reduction by all three game console makers in May, which would coincide with the Electronic Entertainment Exposition gaming industry annual trade show.
