Microsoft and MTV to launch new digital music channel
Software giant Microsoft and the MTV have announced a partnership to form Urge, a new digital music channel that will be available through Windows Media Player. There are plans to offer more than two million songs and editorial content via the channel.
MTV was launched in 1981 and was later bought out by Viacom. The network has diversified from only showing music videos to music news, cartoons and even films. Urge will have to compete with other digital music services, namely iTunes. More details will be given at the official Urge launch at CES 2006 in Las Vegas.
